Research in this area has so far has been inconclusive. However research recently published in the British Journal Obstetrics and Gynaecology attempts to answer this question. In the study, there were 165 women recruited and divided into groups of normal vaginal delivery and LSCS. The women had to have delivered in the 12 months prior to the study’s commencement, to be included in the study. The vaginal pressure was measured in both groups. The tightness was assessed using a vaginal pressure monitor.
The findings showed: 1. Women who delivered vaginally had a lower intravaginal pressure. 2. However, in both groups, there was no difference in: a. sexual satisfaction b. foreplay time c. sexual function So while there is a lower intravaginal pressure (vagina not as tight), the sexual satisfaction is the same. The best advice is to continue the pelvic floor exercises.
